@, £, and ” Keys on the Keyboard are in the wrong place

May 5th, 2008 Admin Lee

What is wrong with my keyboard

Sometimes on certain people’s keyboards they find that their keys on their Keyboard are in the wrong place…

For example, The key (which on a uk keyboard) should be above the 2 key, but in fact on the @ key and viser versa.

What has happened is that the keyboard settings in windows has been defaulted to american standards instead of UK. Nothing serious at all and only takes one minute to fix using control panel.

How to fix the @ key being in the wrong place

1 - Click Start > Control Panel
2 - Click “Regional & Language Settings”
3 - At the top of the window that opens you will see the “keyboard” tab
4 - Click “Change Keyboard Button”
5 - Delete the US keyboard and ignore any messages that pop up.
6 - Test it, and you should be sweet.

This works on Windows Vista & Windows XP

New Platte Media Removal Instructions Video xp & Vista

April 30th, 2008 Admin Lee

Note To Platte Media & Legal representation

Again I am refusing you access to my site and files, as shown in the notice served to your solicitor, you are not allowed to look at any material contained in any part of this website being www.theeasypc.co.uk close your browser immediately.

For Myself - How to remove Platte Media - video format - xvid

Part 1 of how to remove Platte Media
text instructions to be added tomorrow to accompany each avi file section

Part 2 of how to remove Platte Media
text instructions to be added tomorrow to accompany each avi file section

Part 3 of how to remove Platte Media
text instructions to be added tomorrow to accompany each avi file section

If you cant play the videos you will need the XVID codec download this video player

I have created a video demonstration of how to remove Platte Media off of a PC. This demonstration is in avi video format to help guide the way. I must stress for legal reasons and by the advice of my solicitor that no one should follow these instructions if you have not paid Platte Media any money out standing to them, bacause this removal guide will remove their program off of the infected PC, stopping the reminder screens etc, thus removing Platte Media without paying for it.

If you owe Platte Media money then its your decision to pay them or not. That is nothing to do with me. This is for educational purposes only, for which I do not make any profit from.

You will need a program call itty bitty process manager 1.0.4 to kill the processes off. download it
—here—- The reason for this is that the PM_PROC files in task manager keep reloading each other when you close one, it reopens itself. Itty Bitty, lets you close more than one process at the same time by selecting the processes you want by holding down the ‘CTRL’ key.

itty bitty screen print
After creating these files, I cancelled the subscription to platte media within the three days owing Platte Media £0.00

Thanks Guys

April 29th, 2008 Paul B

Thanks for the advice guys that seems to have got rid of that pain in the a*** “sticky” software - Sorry to hear that Platte Media or should that be Pratte media are taking legal action against you - If the operated in a a normal sane and honest business why do they have to mislead and con people and demand payment “after” the fact of a perceived agreement is undertaken - I dont know of any other professional web based business who operates this way in demanding money in such and underhanded, unfair and manipulative manner.

By the way the directors details of this nasty company are easily available from Companies House together with copies of the accounts of other companies they have held Directorships of - No accounts exist for Platte Media as yet as it was only renamed last August - previously known as Micro Billing Systems who it seems were equally unwelcome - previous Directors of said company held Directorships of more than 50 other companies many of them Communications or Media type businesses.

I believe the current Directors are Mr Mark Webb, Ashley Bateup and Graham Foster although perhaps you could think of other things to call them.

I will take your advice and enjoy carrying out stage 14 of your guide. ha ha!!

Cheers

The Boycott of o2 customer services

April 15th, 2008 Admin Lee

Why i Have no Love for o2

I brought an iPhone from an o2 shop in November 2007 and returned it 5 days later due to the fact that the iPhone was lacking some basic features like a decent Camera, No Video recording, and no MMS facilities.

Since then as ‘each’ month passed I received debt letter after debt letter from o2 stressing that I owed them money, and more money, and even more money, and a phone!!! Are they taking the ‘mick’ now.

With each and every single letter that come through my door, I called them up expressing my distress and with each phone call, I was sent on my way with the famous words of “do not worry any more, it has been sorted out, and you will not hear from us again”…

I dont know about you but I have never seen more incompetence in a Multi Million Pound industry in all my life. I even used to work for a telco, and I personally cut corners in my job to go home at 5pm, but even then I still managed to make sure my customer complaints were ‘finallised’ and promises were kept.

I used to be with o2 a few years back but left due to the customer services being like ‘brick walls’ I promptly left, and in a small moment of forgetfulness I took out another contract cause I wanted the iPhone so badly.

Please leave your comments if you agree or disagree with the fact that o2 customer services are horrific at their job and that o2 might as well not even have a customer service department

Windows will not boot, keeps restarting at the windows logo

April 15th, 2008 Admin Lee

Symptoms

Does your PC switch on, begin to start up and hit the windows logo - loading screen (as shown below?) and then restart again and again.

xp loading screen

Sometimes it gives you the error message of selecting safe mode, last known good configuration, and reboots again and again?

last known good configuration

If you are experiencing these problems then this blog can help you out.

What has happened and what to do…

The problem usually has occured because of improper shut down of the PC. To correct this you will need to run CHKDSK. This is a DOS based program which checks the indexes and structure of your hard drive. When you run it, I can safely say stage 1 of the over all process will be fine, but when you come to stage 2 this is where you will find your problems. In the second stage of the CHKDSK process, it finds and repairs all the descrepancies in the index structure… in other words, when you start your PC with the boot cd in the drive with this file on (explained below) you just sit back and relax and do … ‘nothing actually’. Hope this is easy enough for you.

Instructions…

Use your windows xp disk (or download a boot disk from me 10mb (preferably you will use you own XP disk to save my bandwidth.)

Put the cd in the drive and turn on your PC.

If you are using your windows XP disk, when the setup screen finally loads select the repair selection (usually by pressing the “R” key) it should ask for an administraitor password which you should leave blank, and then type “chkdsk” and let the file do its job.

If you are using my Hiren’s Mini BootDisk then follow these instructions.

You will first be asked to boot from Hard Drive or CD… select CD
In the next menu select “File Managers”
Then Select “Volvik Commander”
You will be presented with more options… select Yes, Read/Write, and then select Run “CHKDSK” Then let the program do its business.

When you reboot the PC you will have access back in to windows. Any questions or problems please do not hesitate to email me for further help or add me to MSN (bleemster@hotmail.com)

Finally

If your PC is not working you can only be reading this from work or a seperate Laptop, either way, bookmark this page now, and print off these instructions to guide you through this problem

DBOX2 - IFA connection issues

April 14th, 2008 Admin Lee

My Dbox will not connect with IFA

Some times when you try and connect to your Dbox through IFA and you get errors like port 67 errors etc, or when you do manage to get around that fault, you then hit crossover cable errors or fixed IP address errors, given up BOOTP/TFTP boot.

How do i fix this?

To fix this do the following:

1 - Click Start > Run > Type “msconfig”
2 - Select the bullet point in “Diagnostic Startup” Mode
3 - Click Apply, and reboot

After a reboot you should be able to run IFA as normal, but once finished make sure you put the bullet back in the “Normal Mode” selection

Concerned over your PC or kids on MSN?

April 10th, 2008 Admin Lee

Are my kids safe on MSN?

When we visit peoples home to repair their computers, we usually find the customers ‘thinks’ their PC has gone faulty due to the fact their children have been using MSN. This is not 100% correct. Apart from the obvious part of ‘who’ your kids chat with on the internet (i think we both know the type of scum i mean) they pretty much cannot do any harm to your PC.

What is the worst that can happen?

MSN can get spyware from time to time, but very rarely viruses. MSN is the worlds number one chat program around and most virus protecion software packages monitor MSN. The only way to get a virus is for someone to send you a file containing a virus though MSN’s file transfur. But again your virus protection should pick it up the second you try and run it.

Spyware on the other hand is a bit easier to infiltrate your PC as virus protection is not too hot on detecting spyware, and no spyware protection software out there will monitor MSN. The ways spyware gets through which is the most common we see, is when you get a message from a friend (someone in your buddy list) saying “visit this website” or “some sort of smiley picture advertisement.” The second you click this link and visit the website, it installs software on your computer that will deliver you popups, thats pretty much it. Regarding collatoral damage, MSN cannot do much harm at all.

Should i allow my children to use MSN?

You can allow your children to use MSN if:
1) you can trust them not to speak to the number one rule we were all taught from growing up… “no talking to strangers”
2) you make them read this, and make sure they do not accept any files from anyone even friends.
3) that they do not visit any websites that are shown on their MSN.

Follow these rules and they (and your PC) will be fine.

Do i use MSN?

Simpley yes, i follow these rules and have never in 9 years got any viruses at all.

Choosing a Hosting service and Domain Name

April 10th, 2008 Admin Lee

Registering a domain name does not necessarily provide you with hosting and email service provision. A .co.uk domain can usually be registered for around £5 per year whereas a hosting package to provide you with emails and web hosting can cost from £25 a year upwards. Registering a domain name is the process you go though when you buy a name for your web site. Its a simple process and one that anyone can do online with a credit card. Registering a domain name these days is an almost instant process.

Registering a domain name on the internet is the equivalent of registering a company name at Companies House. Once registered, no-one else can use that name. Registering a domain name on the Internet is the equivalent of registering a company name with Companies House. Once registered, it cannot be used by anyone else.

Websites and email systems use domain names in their addresses. People register domain names in order to ’stake a claim’ to a particular name - whether for business or personal reasons. Website Services provides a place for individuals and organizations to order web site packages including Internet domains, email services, and much more.

Choose your domain name carefully! Choosing your domain name is certainly an important decision, and it makes sense to think seriously about it for a while. It helps to write a few versions on paper and see how they look, before making that final decision. Choosing and registering a domain name is a simple and inexpensive marketing action. But it has profound consequences.

Including a number within your domain name can cause problems. When you tell someone your web address, you will continually have to tell them it`s a number and not the word. How google pagerank works

April 9th, 2008 Admin Lee

A brief in to google pagerank

The Google PageRank (PR) ranks a page on a scale of 0 to 10 where 10 is the highest and 0 the lowest. There are several factors that govern the page rank of a web page including number of in-bound links / Back links (other web pages that link to web page being ranked) and link popularity . The Google Pantented PageRank technology is a very complex string of variables to interpret a number from 0-10, especially when only Google really knows how it works, is difficult. Worse still, the visible representation, the green bar that the public can see, only changes on a quarterly (3 month) basis, while the real PageRank of a page changes on a daily basis. The Google PageRank™ is for webmasters and SEO specialists a very important indicator of how well the Webpage is ranking in the google search engine. Often is a high position in Google SERP’s related with the PageRank from a website or domain.

The Google PageRank is perhaps the single most important element in Google’s complex ranking algorithm. The Alexa Traffic Rank is based on three months (quarterly) of aggregated historical traffic data from many Alexa Toolbar users and is a combined measure of page views and users (reach). The Google PageRank Toolbar in SEO and web designer circles is a hotly discusses item. Some say it’s useless, others say it gives you a general overview of your site’s standing in Google. The Google PageRank will arrive as part of the overall package.

Google also indexes the text given in the ALT tags of images So make sure you add your key words here too. Google strives to reward visitor-friendly sites with high placement on its search results pages, taking into consideration other factors as well. Building a network of incoming links is the most potent way to improve your PageRank in Google. Building links is also very important to your success in the AdSense. Google assigns each page in its index a PageRank value. A high PageRank will give the advantage of getting a good listing in Google search results but not the only factor, there are many sites with a PageRank of 2,3 or 4 with listings in the top ten on a particular search term, and sites with PageRanks of 6,7 or 8 that cannot be found in search results except on exact searches of the business’ name. This is due to the Key word structure behind each page, you ‘need’ to make sure your key words and phrases are what you want your customers to search on. The key words also need to be reapeated several times throughout that particular page.

Websites that are flagged for “selling text links” will automatically receive an immediate drop in PageRank viewable by the Google PageRank tool bar, search engine rankings will greatly suffer and the website will/can be removed from our index. Most live websites that are currently going to be effected by this have already realized at least two of the penalties above. Website Grader looks at a many number of factors about the webpage as part of its evaluation, including Google PageRank. Webmasters report their websites receiving not much more traffic despite the increased visible PageRank. In numerous forum threads people question the reliability of toolbar values.
